Who We Are

 

Scott Bowman, MD

Scott Bowman is the founder and president of Hearth. Scott completed training as an eye surgeon at Northwestern and has made service to the homeless a major pillar of his professional life. Scott also founded the student-run organization Homeless Outreach Project as a medical student at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to medical school, Scott taught middle school math through Teach For America.

Sam Adams

Sam Adams is the educational programs manager for the Come to Believe Network, an organization dedicated to scaling an innovative, two-year college model at universities across the United States. Previously, he was a teacher and administrator for Promise Schools, a non-profit charter management organization in Detroit, MI.

Matt Bowman

Matt Bowman is a professional baseball pitcher, formerly with the Cincinnati Reds and the St. Louis Cardinals. Having seen the intersection of homelessness and the opioid epidemic in Cincinnati, he joined Hearth in hopes of addressing these issues in a more comprehensive and hands on way. With an economics degree from Princeton University, he also hopes to identify some of the public policies that may exacerbate homelessness.

Brian Poulson

Since graduating from the University of Virginia in 2009, Brian has long advocated for the inclusion of low-income and housing insecure individuals in community building. He has served on a community task force that highlighted the need for affordable housing opportunities in Chapel Hill, NC. He also spent 3 years working for a non-profit that provided housing, living skills development, and vocational training for individuals with mental health disorders in order to reduce their risk of homelessness. Brian hopes to create opportunities to support these individuals through community partnerships and outreach efforts.

Michael Mellody

Michael is a graduate of Davidson College and Stanford Graduate School of Business and currently works in media. He began his career as a high school teacher at a charter school in Chicago and remains passionate about working with underserved populations.
